The Russian Orphan: They Call Him the White Stallion is an action-packed series opener. The author keeps the action moving for the characters as she develops the setting and connections for the series' world stage. While I'm not always a fan of international espionage and political thrillers, this novel brings unique characters together on a suspenseful journey that contains just enough twists and turns to hold the reader's interest without overwhelming the reader with world-building details.
Expect to Love Sergei's Character and His World. I connected immediately with Sergei's character and found it impossible not to root for him as the story progressed. I didn't love Serena, and I haven't connected well with some of the other characters, but Sergei is well-developed and believable. The author does a wonderful job creating the setting and scenes throughout this novel. It is easy to imagine the spaces and sights and to connect to the world she creates for her characters.
Would I Recommend The Russian Orphan: They Call Him the White Stallion by Deede Blake? I found myself pulled into this novel much easier than I had expected. Blake creates a very visual novel for readers that is easy to follow and engaging, with moments of humor and a fast pace that keeps the plot moving very well. I didn't find the novel exceptionally realistic, but it is entertaining and engaging, and I can certainly see it working quite well as a television miniseries. If you enjoy thrillers set on a world stage, rocked with political motivations and espionage, this is an engaging story that serves well as the series opener. I do look forward to reading more of this series.
Graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Pharmacy, Deede Blake distinguished herself early on by winning the Algernon Sydney Sullivan Award for humanitarian contributions and the Bristol Achievement Award.
Though rooted in science, Deede's heart beats for storytelling. Her diverse portfolio boasts poems, songs, essays, and novels that echo her global adventures. The Russian Orphan, her riveting tale, is slated to become a TV mini-series, the first in the anticipated World Changer Trilogy.
As Deede crafts her sequels, she immerses herself in the cultures of Mongolia, Africa, and the Philippines to bring authentic depth to her tales. She's also launching a clothing line, and writing music for the television screenplay.
When she's not traversing uncharted terrains, Deede enjoys the comforts of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, with her two children and feline companions, and occasionally retreats to her partner's abode in Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Dive into her world, where science meets boundless imagination.
