Tess Kincaid, celebrity golf professional, decides to visit and meet, for the first time, her presumptive fiancé Eddie Spinozza's family in Albany, New York for Thanksgiving, in anticipation of the next step in their relationship. The Spinozza and Cuchinelli families have been entrenched in Albany for two generations, but Eddie has assured Tess that he is not involved in his family's "business". However, on the first night of her visit, sitting in The Dirty Martini Club watching Eddie perform with his band, she witnesses the brazen shooting of one of the band members. Almost simultaneously, and without much warning, an epic, once-in-a-lifetime snowstorm suffocates Albany, preventing Tess from leaving town.
She subsequently becomes a material witness to a series of events, which the police are only reluctantly investigating. What happens next is a daring, and life-altering event that brings Eddie and Tess to a do or die scenario amid mob warfare. The results are quite unpredictable.
The Dirty Martini Club Brings Readers the 4th Book in the Tess Kinkaid Series. This romantic suspense novel is the 4th Book in the series--but it stands perfectly well on its own. Readers are left interested in the characters for future books--but do have a resolution to this story without feeling that they missed too much without reading books 1-3. The author doesn't do a lot of rehashing of previous novels, but I found myself interested in reading more of Tess's stories.
Great Characters and a Solid Story Line Keep the Novel Moving. Great doesn't necessarily mean likable in terms of character and personality. It does mean great in terms of development and fit for the characters' roles in the story. I liked Tess. I wasn't a fan of Eddie--or Eddie's family--but their personalities fed the plot and kept the novel's romantic and suspense themes going. The Book did start a little slow as I tried to put the characters into place--and rationalize why Tess was even in the situation she was involved in! It took several chapters before I fell into the story, the time, and the setting--but once I did, I found it very well organized and well-paced through to the end.
Would I Recommend The Dirty Martini Club by Jude Randazzo? After a slow start to settle into the story--there was a lot to love about the Book. Tess faces stark differences between herself and the family of the man she plans to marry. The author does a beautiful job allowing his main character the opportunity to sort through mob angles, moral issues, and her own beliefs and strong character traits as this romantic suspense plays out. If you enjoy romantic suspense and mafia stories, with a well-developed plot and a solid main character--this novel should be on your reading list.
