My Review
Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama Looks at Life's Dramas Too. As Cindy and Dave try to navigate married life--they must also navigate a number of outside factors, influences and stressors. From outside factors like stressful, demanding careers, co-workers, & family members--to battling themselves and some personal issues and character flaws--the author brings a variety of dramatic woes to the scenes of this book. Maintaining a successful marriage is certainly a challenging aspect as life throws "drama" into the mix at so many turns. Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama takes a look at many of the more adult themed factors and vices that couples may face.
Readers may Find Pieces of the Book Relatable. While I could certainly see some of the book's themes carry from the 80's to present day (career stressors, adultery, alcohol abuse, etc), I had a difficult time connecting to the main characters--especially Cindy. Cindy's responses to some of her life dramas were certainly not my responses 30-35 years later. I am not sure if I had a time period disconnect--or if the author's portrayal of Cindy held too much "male voice" for my liking.
Would I Recommend Off Broadway: A Marriage Drama by William A. Glass? I enjoyed the pace of the novel and the real-world issues that the author tossed into the plot along the way. I didn't love the characters--but, their stories played out well together. It is a drama that deals with adult themed issues--but, not in overdone or graphic ways. If you enjoy family and marriage dramas this one offers some relatable issues that continue to press couples decades later.
