About the Book
On a business trip, a high-powered fifty-six-year-old American entrepreneur visits his partners in China. After their meeting, his Asian mentor invites him to an orphanage, a trip that will change the course of his family's life forever. Without hesitation, he and his wife fall in love with Anglo/Asian twin girls and become their adoptive parents. The children grow up in a world of twists and turns with multiple coincidences and synchronicity. Their journey takes them from China to Europe to America and back to China where their unusual birth mother enters their lives. This powerful story is filled with drama at every turn as the daughters face internal and external challenges. The Birth Mother is a story filled with love, pathos, tragedy, and triumph. Read, laugh, cry, and learn. It's a tale you will never forget.
My Review
The Birth Mother Tells a Heartwarming, Heartbreaking, Hopeful Story. This novel crosses time, continents, and cultures to tell a family's story. With a unique storytelling tone and the use of multiple points of view, the author creates a piece that tells all sides of the whole story. I enjoyed the characters and their various challenges--and I enjoyed moving between the twins' families to learn their story as the "biography" unfolded.
The author made a complex story easy to read. There are a number of twists, turns, and seemingly coincidental encounters that bring this story from beginning to end. Readers will travel from present to past and back again via the histories and experiences of different characters. Although the narrative changes at times--and readers will experience cultural and religious belief systems that impact the heart of the story and its characters. While the writing style is unique and the plot is intricate--the author does a wonderful job connecting with the reader and keeping the storyline orderly and well-paced.
The Birth Mother is Difficult to Put Down. I enjoyed this novel from start to finish and I was drawn to the story to the very last pages. While there is pain and heartache--there is empathy, growth and drama that tugs the heartstrings and warms the heart. The novel moves well and tells a very detailed story with an easy to follow, easy to appreciate manner.
Would I Recommend The Birth Mother by Seymour Ubell? I enjoyed the novel and the author's writing style. For readers who enjoy reading true to life stories and biography/memoir type fiction--this is a must read. There are painful scenes for readers--but, there are joyful ones as well. This novel was a great way to begin my new year and I highly recommend it.
