About the Book
The headlines read:
U. S. Bolstering Pacific Military Forces to Counter ‘Massive’ Beijing Buildup.
Pentagon Acknowledges Beijing Seeks Global Supremacy.
This is what the news media is saying. But what exactly is happening behind closed doors?
The Beijing Memorandum takes reader on a thrill ride from the heavily guarded Zhongnanhai compound in Beijing to the FBI Headquarters in the Nation's Capital to the White House's Situation Room to the Palacio Nacional in Mexico City.
Former Marine Gunnery Sergeant Moses Remington knew terror firsthand. He saw it during his combat deployments in Fallujah, Iraq and in the Helmand Province, Afghanistan. He saw it again in Mexico when he stumbled across China’s secret plan.
Now, he must dodge Chinese assassins and an FBI dragnet to save
Consulate General Gao Quan and his family from certain execution to
disclose China’s secret plans to the world.
My Review
The Beijing Memorandum Offers Realism at a Fast Pace. Readers will not find many slowdowns in the pace of this novel. The author sets the plot rolling and building from the very first pages and keeps the pace through to the very end. The book is a long one--and it does have an intricate storyline. However, it is a realistic one that is developed very methodically. The novel's flow and organization help readers align the characters and the scenes without becoming bogged down in the details or confused as the story progresses.
The author creates a real-world hero for readers. While Moses is not perfect--the author creates a character that readers will come to trust and want to follow through his adventures. The novel is a military thriller with some violent action scenes and harsh realities presented--but that is what makes the story a page-turner.
Would I recommend The Beijing Memorandum by JB Morris? I enjoy thrillers and action/adventure novels. I am not always a fan of military/political thrillers because, too often, they hold violence for the sake of shock value or become unrealistically convoluted. While The Beijing Memorandum contains loads of action-adventure--the author kept the scenes grounded in realism with a well-developed plot and flow. I recommend it to fans of military and political thrillers which do not shy away from more detailed action scenes. I would certainly read more from this author.
