About the Book
Poppy Montgomery has always been good with a gun and could fight her way out of anything. Tough as nails and a sharpshooter, her beauty deceives the outlaws she’s after. Hot on the trail of the Clemmons gang, a group of outlaws who rob trains and killed an innocent woman and child a few months before, she is determined to make them pay for the sin’s they’ve committed by bringing them to justice. Pinkerton, Noah Shaw is investigating a ring of stage robberies and knows the Clemmons gang is behind them. Told to track down the infamous redheaded bounty hunter, Noah gets more than he bargained for when he arrests Poppy for assault. Handcuffed together the pair must work together to stop the robberies, and figure out who is behind them. But what happens when love interferes and thrusts Poppy into discovering emotions she never knew existed? Will she choose the solitude she’s always known or Noah’s sweet embrace?
My Review
Poppy Continues the Montgomery Sisters Story. While Poppy could be read as a stand-alone novel, I think readers gain insights and background into the characters and historical context of the novel by reading each book in order. If you read Fern, you know that she was a strong female character who was far ahead of a woman's place and role in society. Poppy launches the strong female much further in this novel. She isn't as likable as her older sister--but, offers character qualities and interactions that only she could.
Poppy is a Quick Read with Action and Romance. Poppy's rough exterior keeps the action moving--and the romance, while predictable, a little more interesting for readers. While the author keeps the novel short--she manages to develop the setting and her characters very well without a lot of backtracking for readers who had read the first sister's story.
Would I Recommend Poppy by Kat Flannery? Poppy is a rough, harsh tom-boy who is hard to like. While it is sometimes hard to rationalize the character's motivations and actions--her love interest, Noah adds another dimension to her personality. Poppy is another quick, easy read that has a little more language and violence than the previous book--but, it fits Poppy's character well. Poppy is another fun, fast-paced historical romance with a fast-paced romance and storyline. Great for fans of historical romance novels with memorable characters.
